There’s nothing more annoying than a headache. Especially while social distancing and working from home; as we spend more and more time online, you’re probably more familiar with a throbbing headache than ever before. And with 1 in 20 of us experiencing a headache every day, and migraines affecting 1 in 7, pain relief can seem impossible to find.
Whether you’re trying to limit taking lots of painkillers on a daily basis, or are looking for a more natural solution to your throbbing headache, here are 3 tips to help you reduce headaches.
Minimise That Screen
Whether we like it or not, our lives revolve around screens. Whether it’s doing work on your laptop in the office, or keeping in touch with friends on Zoom during the pandemic, in the last few months, our already high screen time has grown exponentially — and so have our headaches. By staring excessively at our screens, we often develop eye strain without realising; statistics show that up to 70% of us experience the effects daily, which in turn could be the cause of your headaches.
An easy fix to eliminate headaches is to limit your screen time. By limiting your use of a screen during work hours, or how much you’re scrolling on your phone, you could be saving not only your time but your migraines from happening.
Already limiting your screen time, or want to reduce headaches even more? Why not use some blue light blocking glasses, like these Computer Glasses from Teddith. They can help reduce the negative effects of long-term blue light exposure on the eyes.
H2- Ohh …
Just because our brains are 80% water, it doesn’t mean they don’t need a top-up occasionally. By not drinking enough water throughout your day, or anything at all throughout the day, your brain begins to shrivel up and pull away from your skull, which causes headaches. Whether it’s some filtered tap water or a nice cup of tea every hour, having a constant stream of any (non-alcoholic) drink throughout the day can help you stay hydrated and prevent headaches.
Needle Little Help
If you suffer from chronic headaches and are sick of having to regularly take painkillers to ease your throbbing head, finding a cure can feel like looking for a needle in a haystack. Yet, with acupuncture, an effective pain relief may be easier to find. Although paying someone to stick needles in your head seems like it will cause more pain rather than relieve it, acupuncture has been noted by the World Health Organisation as an approved headache relief since 1979.
By dividing your body into different zones and pressure points that are typically located near nerves, a professional acupuncturist will insert needles into points, which stimulates different hormones to help naturally ease any aches and pains.
Tip: when looking for a professional to perform acupuncture, make sure you heavily research them and their practice, as a poor acupuncturist could cause you more physical problems.
Although headaches can be a massive pain, hopefully these tips help minimise your symptoms. If not and you’re still experiencing awful headaches, check in with your GP and see if there’s anything they can do to ease your migraine.
